Leadership Workshops
Brimstone’s workshops provide navigation for leaders in the fire service who may not have been able to articulate what was lacking in their leadership. These courses focus on the managing people aspect of being a leader.
Leaders who take courses with Brimstone will be given real-world examples, tools, and skills to develop the courage it takes to be an effective leader and get the most from their crews.
Foundational Leadership
This course helps fire officers establish the internal framework needed for confident and consistent leadership. Students will identify their personal values, define their why, and assess their Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) to understand the strengths they bring to their crew and organization.
Through guided reflection, participants will develop greater security as a leader—the confidence and self-awareness required to lead with clarity and authenticity. Using a personal assessment analysis developed by Brimstone, each student will create a practical leadership profile and action plan they can apply immediately.
This course is ideal for current and aspiring fire officers committed to building a strong, purpose-driven leadership foundation.
The Steward: Taking Care of Those in Your Charge
The Steward teaches officers the core mission of the job: take care of your people so they can accomplish the mission. This course delivers straight-forward, firehouse-real guidance on motivating your crew, training with purpose, correcting without crushing morale, and building trust through consistent action.
You’ll learn how to coach effectively, empower informal leaders, advocate for your crew, and create a station culture where standards are clear, communication is honest, and everyone feels supported and accountable.
This class gives officers practical tools and a clear action plan to build a tighter, stronger, more capable crew—leadership that works because it’s built on stewardship.
The Designated Adult – Leading Through Conflict
This course prepares fire service leaders to step confidently into difficult moments—handling conflict, navigating egos, delivering hard conversations, and applying discipline with clarity and fairness.
Through practical scenarios and proven communication tools, participants learn to de-escalate tension, uphold standards, and maintain crew cohesion. Leaders leave equipped to be the calm, steady presence—the designated adult—when the situation demands it.
In most instances this workshop also includes a section called “The Firehouse Lawyer” where attendees participate in active roleplay on how to navigate these challenging moments – solidifying lessons learned.
Crew Mapping
Crew Insight & Accountability is a practical, no-nonsense class designed to help fire officers deeply understand the individuals they lead. Using a structured approach—including personal and crewmember assessment along with the important aspects of expectations and clarity—you’ll learn how to identify what drives your people, what derails them, and what support they actually need from you.
This course equips officers to build high-trust crews by clarifying mutual expectations, defining how each member contributes, and openly discussing what they can expect from you as their leader. By the end, you’ll walk away with a functional playbook for bringing out the best in every firefighter, minimizing friction, and creating a crew culture where accountability runs both ways.
